When Mary R of North Carolina submitted her entry, she said in her e-mail that (published here with her permission),

“I really took your */creative does not have to be expensive/* challenge to heart and decided to go as minimally on the tools as possible. I know my card is simple, but I want to enter it in your contest anyway. I was pleasantly surprised at how fast the pin pricking was completed. It only took me about 10 minutes or so to complete the card base.

This was a fun, but interesting challenge for me. I, like most everyone else, has become so dependent on the arsenal of supplies and tools at my disposal that was truly be a challenge to try not to use them. I look forward to seeing more of your pin pricking patterns in the future.”

…and that about sums up why Gem’s Cottage launched the Paper Piercing Card Challenge.

The winners of the challenge were announced in the Gem’s Cottage newsletter last June 1st, but for those who are not subscribers and check my blog, here they are!

The Designers Choice Award, with a prize of  $20 in Paypal funds plus a choice of one downloadable set from Gem’s Cottage, goes to Debbie H of Maine, and here is her winning entry:

Our challenge judge, Debbie Bastian (designer at  www.AimeeAsher.com and 3Scrapateers, http://shop.3scrapateers.com/), said that this was “…a tough competition… lots of talented people for sure.” If you visited the album on Paper Piercing, I know that you will definitely agree.

For the second winner, this was arbitrarily selected from all the entries submitted using the random number generator at http://random.org/ . There were 17 entries all in all, each one was numbered in the order they were received. And the winner, according to the random number generator is (this is the screenshot)…

The 8th entry is from Susan M of Pennsylvannia! Her prize is US$15 in Paypal funds plus her choice of one downloadable set from Gem’s Cottage.

Congratulations to Debbie and Susan! But wait there’s more! Everyone who participated gets their choice of one downloadable set from Gem’s Cottage. Our way of saying, “Thank you for trying your hand at something new, thank you for taking the challenge of being creative without being expensive, and thank you for making the Paper Piercing Card Challenge successful!”.

To everyone who wanted to join but just couldn’t, we hope you’ll be able to join us next time. Yes, there’s another one in the works, so wait for the announcement! In the meantime, keep those piercing tools/ pushpins sharp and have fun with this “old but new again” technique!
