According to Mr. Groundhog, there will be six more weeks of winter – but, of course, this won’t stop me from making a spring-y card! I’ve been asked to be a February guest designer for the Tuesday Color Challenges at SplitCoastStampers (doing the happy dance!), and this is my first card. The colors for the challenge are:

I tried to be as close to the colors using DMC embroidery floss – for Wisteria Wonder, I couldn’t really decide if its DMC #340 or #341, so I used both (it made for a natural variegated look); for Wild Wasabi, I used DMC #703. The embroidery floss was used in making these Bachelor’s Buttons look-a-likes (don’t they kinda look like cornflowers aka Bachelor’s Buttons? Squint a little bit harder if you disagree! LOL!). Did I hear “tutorial on how to make floss flowers”? Sure – I’ll post them next week since I’m not ready with it yet.

For the rest of the other elements: slivers of Wild Wasabi cardstock (or something really close to it, since I grabbed it from my scraps) were cut and curled a bit to make the “leaves”; the sentiment was printed on white Georgia-Pacific cardstock using the fonts Albemarle Swash (Birthday) and BernhardFasD(Happy) then cut into an oval on the Silhouette; the tiny butterflies were punched from Soft Sky (again, or something close to it, since it came from my scraps) using Fiskars Seasonal punches; tiny pearls are from Recollections.

As for the paper-pierced background, I designed it myself and am sharing it! Just right-click on the image below and save it in your computer.  The print size is 4″ x 5.25″. If you’re new to paper-piercing (or new to digital paper-piercing designs), check out this video for a quick how-to (scroll down to find the videos). Thank you for coming by to visit!

Oh, Gem, I just had to look at your blog post after seeing this card on SCS! Congrats on being a guest designer for the Color Challenge! Your card is gorgeous with the amazing piercing, and thanks for sharing the template for it. I love piercing. I also love your flowers and appreciate the DMC colors you’ve used. Stunning card! Hugs!
