Robot Favors

My DS will be celebrating his 5th birthday on the 18th, just one day after St. Patrick’s Day. I’m kind of toying with what to make for party favors, and thanks to the February 2010 edition of Family Fun magazine, it gave me the idea to do the ‘bots above. These are really easy to do, and William (my DS) even helped to make them.  To make one, cut a piece of thick cardstock so that it measures 8 ½” x 2 ½”.  Refer to the score lines below, or if you have a Scor Pal, score on the 1″, 4 ½”  and 8″ marks.

Fold the cardstock along the score lines, open it up again and wrap the cardstock with a piece of foil. Fold again and form into a triangular shape, overlap the ends and tape together. Cut out the arms from gray metallic paper (refer to the pattern below).  I just cut the arms with the Cricut (we made 20 bots, so that’s 40 arms!), but you can also cut it out with scissors and a punch (for the curved part of the “fingers”). Attach the arms to the body (I used double sided tape). Attach the feet (Hershey’s minis or similar sized candies) with double sided tape or foam tape, then attach the eyes (I used Rolos and foam tape).  Note that if you use Rolos for the eyes, the robot will tip forward due to the weight. To balance, put double sided tape on the underside of the body (behind the foam tape where the body attaches to the feet), push the body back, then stick that part to the feet (see below).

Print a message – the font I used is System X3,  add digital art if you want to and there you go – a perfect little boy favor! And here’s the pattern for the arm:
