Bling Challenge on DU2DS

Posted by: Gemin Projects

The second challenge at DU2DS is bling – and I struggled, for two reasons. First reason is, I am not used to putting bling on things I create. It’s just the way I am, if you meet me in person, you will notice that the only jewelry I wear is my wedding ring, and it translates to my craft. I have nothing against jewelry or sparkly stuff, again, it’s just the way I am. The second reason why I struggled is coloring stamped images. Taking the advice of Kim Fee (note her comment in my first DU2DS), I got the watercolor pencils out, chose a digi stamp (line art of Snookie)  then started coloring. Arrrrgh! After printing several times and after coloring several images, nothing came out the way I wanted. Sooo, not willing to give up easily, I thought maybe I should use another digi stamp.  I created this line art for a rose – see end of this post and for you digi stampers out there, you are welcome to snag it if you want, no restrictions in its use (just right-click on the image and save in your disk). But then again, same results as before, nothing came out the way I wanted.  At this point (note that I’ve been working on this challenge for several days already), I’m throwing in the towel temporarily. Maybe working with watercolor pencils is not for me, next time, I’ll try using what most stampers use – Prismacolor pencils or Copic markers. I went back to the colored digital images of Snookie and used  her in the card I made above.  The card is pretty simple, but I do like how the small rhinestones complemented the paper-piercing at the corners – I guess that’s a small victory for me, at least. Thanks to the people at DU2DS who come up with these challenges, I got out of my comfort zone, LOL!

Project “Ingredients”:  pink cardstock is from Best Occasions Pearlescent Paper Pack, small rhinestones also from Best Occasions, digital paper-piercing pattern from Gem’s Cottage Corners, Borders and Frames, digital image from Snookie, 3D pop dots, used an oval Colluzle to cut out oval mat

This is gorgeous – the paper piercing and the gems set this off perfectly – love it!

I love this image and your colouring is perfect ! I find that watercolour pencils work best if you print your image out onto card . . . that could me though ! ! !

Great card & love the frame she stands in.

Fantastic card and such a cute image! Hope you try the watercolour again, it’s a satisfying result when you get used to it. Love how you used your bling on the paper piercing, it’s such a lovely effect and glad we got you try something different LOL! Glad you could join us at DU2DS this week. Chris 🙂

Your card is so sweet. The paper pricking in the corners so delicate and the touch of bling really lifts it.
I’m another ‘print onto cardstock’ girl. I use the back of linen cardstock, seems to work well for me.
