According to Mr. Groundhog, there will be six more weeks of winter – but, of course, this won’t stop me from making a spring-y card! I’ve been asked to be a February guest designer for the Tuesday Color Challenges at SplitCoastStampers (doing the happy dance!), and this is my first card. The colors for the challenge are:

I tried to be as close to the colors using DMC embroidery floss – for Wisteria Wonder, I couldn’t really decide if its DMC #340 or #341, so I used both (it made for a natural variegated look); for Wild Wasabi, I used DMC #703. The embroidery floss was used in making these Bachelor’s Buttons look-a-likes (don’t they kinda look like cornflowers aka Bachelor’s Buttons? Squint a little bit harder if you disagree! LOL!). Did I hear “tutorial on how to make floss flowers”? Sure – I’ll post them next week since I’m not ready with it yet.

For the rest of the other elements: slivers of Wild Wasabi cardstock (or something really close to it, since I grabbed it from my scraps) were cut and curled a bit to make the “leaves”; the sentiment was printed on white Georgia-Pacific cardstock using the fonts Albemarle Swash (Birthday) and BernhardFasD(Happy) then cut into an oval on the Silhouette; the tiny butterflies were punched from Soft Sky (again, or something close to it, since it came from my scraps) using Fiskars Seasonal punches; tiny pearls are from Recollections.

As for the paper-pierced background, I designed it myself and am sharing it! Just right-click on the image below and save it in your computer.  The print size is 4″ x 5.25″. If you’re new to paper-piercing (or new to digital paper-piercing designs), check out this video for a quick how-to (scroll down to find the videos). Thank you for coming by to visit!

Going to the beach and seeing tide pools always leaves me in awe of God’s creations. I guess that’s why the sentiment for this card is another Bible verse (if you are curious, here is the first tide pool scene card I made). This is for Nance’s Theme Challenge “Let’s Go to the Beach” over at The Paper Players and also for Thursday’s Challenge at SplitcoastStampers – Tantalizing Texture by Cathy.

Our family’s two-week break ends today…it was nice to get away from it all (even the aches and pains I normally feel on my neck and shoulders are better!), and come back refreshed, invigorated, ready to get back to paper crafting again! I checked out yesterday’s Inspiration Challenge and Audrie chose this beautiful Pinterest site by DeeDee J, Button Crafts. What an overload of eye-candy! I saw this pretty ornament and the gears in my creative mind started whirring (albeit slowly, at first, LOL).

This card is for a very special couple. I met the bride through the PCCrafter message board about 10 years ago, and even though the message board is gone, we have kept in touch. She is beautiful and kind, generous, courageous and strong, a person who deserves to be happy. I hope that someday, I will meet her and her husband in person.

I’m Listening…

This is the second time I’m posting about the square basket this month. The first time, it was fall themed, and I even mentioned how easy it is to make…then, LeAnne said in her comment, “The box alone is more complex than I would ever attempt.” Hmmm…. May I make a confession? Although I shared the instructions on how to make the basket, I didn’t really follow them: I used my Cricut with SCAL instead*. There, now my secret is out!
